If you’ve been dreaming about eloping in Grand Teton National Park, chances are you’ve seen the Wedding Tree pop up as one of the top ceremony locations and for good reason!

The Wedding Tree is one of those spots that feels almost too good to be real. You get the dramatic Grand Teton mountain views, a beautiful and intimate setting, and an experience that can feel incredibly simple and laid-back. It can also be a great option for couples looking for an easier-to-access ceremony location or an alternative to some of the more complicated permit options in the park.

But before you officially commit to the Wedding Tree, there are a few things I think every couple should know.

The Weather Can Be VERY Unpredictable

First things first: you are in the mountains!

The Wedding Tree sits at a higher elevation, which means the weather can change quickly and can be completely different from what you’re experiencing down in Jackson.

And when I say unpredictable, I mean it.

I’ve personally experienced snow in June at Grand Teton National Park. Yes, June! Can you believe that?!

You could have a beautiful, sunny morning and suddenly find yourself surrounded by clouds, wind, rain, or even snow. That’s part of the magic of the Tetons, but it’s also something you need to be prepared for.

Because of that, I typically recommend considering the summer months when planning a Wedding Tree elopement. Even then, there are no guarantees when it comes to mountain weather, so come prepared with layers and a flexible mindset.

And honestly? Sometimes the unexpected weather makes the photos even more incredible.

It’s Bear Country

Another important thing to remember is that you are in bear country.

Grand Teton National Park is home to wildlife, and conditions can change quickly. Certain areas can occasionally be closed with little notice because of wildlife activity or other safety concerns.

That means even if you have your plans, permit, and timeline all ready to go, there is always a possibility that circumstances outside of your control could affect your plans.

This is one of the biggest reasons I recommend having a backup plan for your elopement.

The mountains are beautiful, but they are also wild and we have to respect that.

The Wedding Tree Is Still Open to the Public

This is probably one of the biggest things couples should understand before choosing the Wedding Tree.

Even though you reserve your ceremony time and obtain the required permit, the area is still open to the public.

So, you aren’t necessarily going to have the entire location completely to yourselves.

That might sound intimidating, but in my experience, people have generally been pretty respectful. You may have other visitors nearby, but most people understand that a wedding is taking place and are happy to give you space when they can.

If having a completely private ceremony with absolutely no one else around is important to you, this may not be the perfect location.

But if you’re okay with a little bit of public interaction and the possibility of other people enjoying the area, I think the Wedding Tree can be an amazing choice.

Why I Love the Wedding Tree for Elopements

For the right couple, the Wedding Tree is a simple, beautiful, straight-to-the-point elopement location.

You get the mountains.
You get the views.
You get that iconic Grand Teton scenery.
And you don’t necessarily need to plan an elaborate all-day adventure just to have an incredible ceremony backdrop.

It can be especially appealing for couples who want something that feels easy and accessible for their guests while still giving them that epic Wyoming experience.

And let’s be honest those mountain views are hard to beat.

So, Is the Wedding Tree Right for You?

I think the Wedding Tree is a fantastic option if you want a ceremony that is beautiful, relatively simple, and surrounded by some of the most incredible scenery in the country.

Just go into it knowing what you’re signing up for.

The weather may surprise you. Wildlife can affect access. Other visitors may be around. And the mountains are always going to have a little bit of unpredictability.

But that’s also what makes a Grand Teton elopement so special.
